I guess the manga dork inside of me was missing my weekly IY fix, so I ventured out into unknown territory!! And, OMG, actually read something else!!!!

I feel like giving you lot a run down of what I've been reading, and here it is! (cathy - I know you don't like manga, bear with me, OK

?)
Liar Game:

Out of the 3 I've been reading recently, this is my least favorite (still good though). Long story short, naive girl gets sucked into a game where you and an opponent are given a set amount of money, and you must try to gain control of your opponents money. The only problem is, if your opponent gains your money you're the lucky one that gets to pay it back to the corporation that runs the game. If you gain the opponent's money, you get to keep it. The girl gains the help of some boffy dude to help her. The plot's great (though in a veryveryveryvery similar genre to death note) but the characters are kinda blah (not a fan of the girl who can't do anything without a guy!). The art is...not so cool.
Bakuman:
The next series from the dudes who wrote Death Note. Shockingly (as with the one above) nobody has licensed it to translate it into English, which really surprises me, cos I really like it! It's a totally different genre to death note; it's about a two boys who want to become mangaka, and all the stuff they have to do, and people they must compete with to get there. It's interesting because you really want to see them succeed, but also because you learn about some of the stuff going on inside Shounen Jump offices (if they're writing truthfully, but I hope, being in the business and all, they'd know?!) As with death note, the art is excellent, but I think the style's a bit less serious.

Fullmetal Alchemist/Hagane no Renkinjutsushi/Hagaren/wev you want to call it.
I suspect you've heard of this one. I'm not sure if I can do a good enough summary to justify how good this is, so I'll get one off the wikipedia:
"Edward and Alphonse Elric are two alchemist brothers who search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, a powerful object which would allow them to recover their bodies (which were lost in an attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy). Born in the village of Resembool from the country of Amestris, the two brothers lived there with their parents. Their father, Hohenheim, left home for unknown reasons and years later, their mother, Trisha Elric, died of a terminal illness leaving the Elric brothers alone. After their mother's death, Edward becomes determined to bring her back through the use of alchemy, an advanced science in which objects can be created from raw materials. They researched Human Transmutation, a forbidden art in which one attempts to create or modify a human being. However, this attempt failed, ultimately resulting in the loss of Edward's left leg and right arm and Alphonse's entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrificed his right arm to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. Some days later, an alchemist named Roy Mustang visits the Elric brothers, and he tells Edward to become a member of the State Military of the country to find a way to recover their bodies. After that, Edward's left leg and right arm are fitted with two sets of automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb, created for him by his close family friends Winry Rockbell and her grandmother Pinako."

Pshh...there's so much more plot to it than this, but we'd be here all day, so I'll stop. I adore Winry (the blond one up there), she's so focused on what she does (is an automail mechanic) and also really obsessed with it. She's really optimistic and just in general awesome (however there are no good pictures of her on google..what's up with that?!). I might just maybe maybe end up writing more on Hagaren...I really like it...eheh.. (if cathy can tolerate it

)
Have a good easter!
